A slab! And more $$ out the door.

This is what the crew is working on right now.

Yes, we have a slab, at long last! And about $4,500 walking out the door today: cement truck; pump; materials and supplies; adobe pallets that need to be delivered a day or two early because of a scheduling conflict for the guy doing the delivery. That's not including the labor, which will get paid at the end of the work week.

Right now they're out there busting their asses to get it finished before the rain hits; in the last 20 minutes, the clouds have rolled in, and the guys need to get it as finished as possible before they open up. We're under an extended flash-flood watch for today and tomorrow.

We also have to go window shopping tomorrow. Not to buy yet, just to price, but we'll have to buy them in a couple of weeks. That's going to be another couple grand, at least. For every bit of joy that accompanies every milestone we hit, a new round of terror uncoils in my soul at the looming costs.

We knew this was a long shot, needing to crowdfund the building of a freaking house, but there was no other choice (beyond fire risk and a tin can that will not support two aging bodies with chronic health issues), and so we took a flyer on it. I don't think I ever actually believed it would happen, but somehow the slab makes things seem suddenly real. Tangible. Terrifying, at the thought of having to halt work.

Please share our YouCaring page. PLEASE. From the widgets on the page itself, and via the widget code in the lower right-hand corner, to get this:

Please also share Wings's Web site. Consistent sales will keep this going even better than donations, but most of our clientele is now spread all over the world and linked by way of the Web site; the tourist trade here has collapsed, at least in terms of sales.

Many thanks to everyone who has given us a hand thus far and continues to do so. We could not, would not be doing this without all your help. I am going to have to be out for most of the remainder of the day, so expect everything else to be extraordinarily late, but I'll be back when I can.
