Okay, well, not exactly "new," but it's been a few years since they've shown up here.
Say's Phoebes are shy and skittish. They have a beautiful clear bell-like call, a one-note sound that reminds me of a shorter version of that of the grosbeaks and the flickers, and they use it — but they'll take off at the first sign of movement.
This one was in the very top of the aspen just outside the front window. I heard his call and grabbed the camera, and he let me get three shots off (although not from a vantage point that eliminated sun glare) before vanishing in a flurry of coral and brown wings.
We've spent the day talking about the possibility of changes (very good ones, if potentially expensive ones). That makes me skittish, too, but maybe, just maybe, he's a good omen.
