A couple of days ago, I asked folks for help spreading the link to our family member's YouCaring page. Long story short, his entire summer income (which supports his family and livestock through the winter months, too) got wiped out by a combination of climate change-driven extreme weather and his grazing lessor's sudden and capricious refusal to honor their lease agreement any longer. It's been an all-out battle in recent months just to keep his cattle herd fed, much less pay other expenses. And winter is now around the corner.
His crowdfunding page is set up to cover expenses into next year, since winter will pretty much negate any ability to generate income from his land. The good news is that means that it doesn't all have to be raised by a specific date. But now, he has the chance to pick up enough top-quality hay to feed his herd for a while at a really good price: $2,100. And so, he's set that as a current mini-goal within the overall goal of $30K. For those of you thinking in terms of our hay bales, these are not those: These are huge bales, designed to feed whole herds.
Now, we all know that $2,100 is eminently doable for the short term. He's using the $700 raised thus far (thanks, everybody) for protein pellets for the cattle; he's got a bunch of newish calves, and they and their mothers need good nutrition now. He'll need to raise the rest, of course, over the months to come, and do s consistently, but for now, we can help him take care of one immediate need if we can help him raise this relatively small amount.
So please go to his YouCaring page and share via the widgets. Y'all know how this works. There's a widget code box at the lower right; this is the tally it gives you:
It's $2,100 over a period of days. We can do this.
Thanks to everyone who shares, kicks in a few bucks, or otherwise helps with this.
