A messenger, but not the message I was hoping for. Sales very badly needed; subscribers and shares, too.

Photo copyright Aji, 2018; all rights reserved.

Yesterday's messenger. I had hoped for a better message than what we got: Wings was on his way home from an errand in Hondo when the truck began to die. On a hill. And of course, he tried calling me and the phones didn't work. Which is to say, mine, fully charged, on, and in my pocket, never rang. To be clear, the car could never have pulled that truck, but he wanted to let me know what was going on, and couldn't. Fortunately, his clan brother was out and about and his phone did work; he dropped everything and towed Wings home safe and sound, thank all that's holy.

Of course, that means a trip to the shop on Wednesday. It seems to involve multiple issues: compression, carburetor, possibly other things. At some point, it's going to be impossible to keep this old truck going, but we can't afford to buy one. And here, a truck is an absolutely necessity, given the hauling and so forth that has to be done. What a perfect way to end 2018, awash in more expenses. We'll be starting the new one adding to this avalanche of medical debt, too.

I'm struggling these days. Depression has me nearly suffocated, and pain too, which makes me completely unequipped to talk to anyone. Any exertion at all in the cold, and my chest rebels, and that's scary as hell, too. What's also scary is what's waiting for me next week, trying to restart this process again: frightening in terms of what might be involved, in terms of what they might find, and unquestionably in terms of how much this is all going to cost. And to be very clear, because I choose my words with precision, but others don't: This is only an appointment. I've been trying to schedule it for three months, and the referral for the testing, too, and could get not so much as a call back. Wings finally called (we both have the same doc at the same practice), and lo and behold, the receptionist set up an appointment on the spot. No, not at all; why would I be angry? [I'm fucking furious.]

And so, as I said above, we also have a whole new avalanche of medical expenses waiting for us on the other side of the new year, beginning next Thursday, and that's on top of the five figures' worth remaining from the year just past. I posted Wings's newest works the other day, a return to an older series; this grouping consists of six pieces, all collected here. For purposes of sharing, here are all the regular links:
  • My new Patreon, The Interstices (Writing Between Worlds) (and if you subscribe today you won't be billed until January 1st for December);
  • Wings's site, for sales, with new items posted;
  • Wings's direct PayPal link;
  • A way to buy me coffee (which actually goes to all of our medical bills, which continue to mount);
  • Amazon wishlist, which mostly consists of animal and household stuff;
  • Partial registry #1, from Bed, Bath and Beyond. There are new kitchen-y things on it now, stuff that I didn't realize we'd need to replace (either because the RV ruined it or because we gave it away when we had to downsize).
As I've said, our path goes through the snow and the dangerous cold, and we have to make it through a long hard winter now. Yes, I'm scared.

Monday Photo Meditation: Love, to Bring a New World Into Being

Photo copyright Wings, 2018; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's a photo meditation for the final day of the calendar year. It's a reflection on the nature of being in a colonized world, and of the focus that will be required of us as we exchange the world of the year just ending for the one about to be born, with a focus on a strong generous heart filled with love, to bring a new world into being.

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. As always, his photos are available for purchase in any of the usual three formats; simply inquire via the site's Contact form. And, as always, sales are very much needed (especially now; new round of medical expenses begins in three days, on top of the five-figure avalanche of medical debt already burying us), so shares of the site links are much appreciated.

Ferocious cold, a a long hard costly winter ahead. Sales needed; subscribers and shares, too.

Photo copyright Aji, 2018; all rights reserved.
Yesterday morning. It only got up to 25 yesterday, but the sun shone all day long, which means that all the snow is off the trees. It managed to melt some of it off the ground, too, although all that means is that it's less deep. More snow on tap, they say, for tomorrow and Tuesday, but for now we get the sub-zero deep freeze that invariably follows a snowstorm here. It's a ferocious cold, and a dangerous one, too.

I'm spending most of my time indoors. A Dancing In the Light

Photo copyright Aji, 2018; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's a work by Wings that reflects the beauty and color of our impossibly cold winter sky this day. It's also one that reminds us of the ways in which illumination may be sought and love expressed, beginning with a dancing in the light.

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. Inquiries via the site's Contact form. And, as always, sales are very much needed (especially now; a new round of expensive appointments starts in less than a week, in hopes of scheduling the testing that should have been done over a year ago — on top, of course, of the five figures' worth of bills from what was already left unaddressed), so shares of the site links are much appreciated.

Dangerous cold and frightening prospects. Big new medical expenses starting next week; sales needed now (subscribers and shares, too).

Photo copyright Aji, 2018; all rights reserved.

Just around the curve down the road, there's not nearly as much snow as we have here. Even less in town. But we all have the bitter cold now, the kind that makes it dangerous to be out of doors.

I've learned the hard way that I can't be out in it very much anymore. Just a couple of brief forays outside yesterday afternoon, and I was so chilled that it took me more than five hours to get warm again. Meanwhile, Wings was roasting in here. Any exertion at all in the cold, and my chest rebels, and that's scary as hell, too. What's also scary is what's waiting for me next week, trying to restart this process again: frightening in terms of what might be involved, in terms of what they might find, and unquestionably in terms of how much this is all going to cost.

As I've said, the snow is a gift, yes, but still no rest or respite from what's looming, particularly on the medical front. I never have a moment's peace from that, so holiday season or no, shares are still much needed and much appreciated. We also have a new avalanche of medical expenses waiting for us on the other side of the new year, beginning next Thursday, and that's on top of the five figures' worth remaining from the year just past. I posted Wings's newest works the other day, a return to an older series; this grouping consists of six pieces, all collected here. For purposes of sharing, here are all the regular links:

As I also said yesterday, somehow, the heavy snow seems fitting, a gentle benediction for the spirits of those who walked on on these days between two and ten years ago now. Four people, family and friends. Midwinter, indeed. But our path goes through the snow, not beyond it, and we have to make it through a long hard winter now.

Aflower In the Winter's Light

Photo copyright Aji, 2018; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's a work that seems to hold the promise of spring on a dangerously cold winter's morning. It's also a reminder that spring has no corner on renewal, that even in the dead of midwinter, our world is renewed and rebirthed, aflower in the winter's light.

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. Inquiries via the site's Contact form. And, as always, sales are very much needed (especially now; the next round of medical stuff begins in less than a week, all on top of the existing avalanche of medical bills), so shares of the site links are much appreciated.

Still the wall of white descends, and dangerous cold with it. Sales needed to get through the winter; subscribers and shares, too.

Photo copyright Aji, 2018; all rights reserved.

That was yesterday. There's no blue in the sky today; it's all the same white as the ground, and the snow is still coming down. Outside the window, there are crows all around the feeder, and one massive raven nearly beak-deep in a flattened area of snow, busy working at one of the dogs' abandoned marrow bones.

Despite the snow, yesterday was not a good day; today isn't starting out especially auspiciously, either. Part of it is the bitter cold and its effects on our bodies; it's much colder now than two days ago, and will be dropping down below zero the next several nights. Part of it is this time of year, with so many losses to mark and mourn. One was eleven days ago; one was yesterday; two others are today. Cricket, who sees things we cannot, has been howling off and on for the last couple of weeks, chasing things less substantial even than shadows. And still the wall of white descends, and a dangerous cold with it.

As I've said, the snow is a gift, yes, but still no rest or respite from what's looming, particularly on the medical front. I never have a moment's peace from that, so holiday season or no, shares are still much needed and much appreciated. Friday Feature: A Light of the Spirit

Photo copyright Aji, 2018; all rights reserved.

It's our Friday Feature at The NDN Silver Blog, with a pair of complementary works by a local master with a distinctive style. It's a pair of traditional wedding vases wrought in the local clay, infused with mica, and with a light of the spirit too.

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. Inquiries via the site's Contact form. And, as always, sales are very much needed (especially now; massive new medical expenses looming after the first of the year, on top of the remaining five figures' worth of medical bills), so shares of the site links are much appreciated.

Midwinter. Mourning and benediction. As always, sales needed.

Photo copyright Aji, 2018; all rights reserved.

Snow! Real snow. As in half a foot before dark yesterday, all in the space of about 2.5 hours. It stopped after darkfall, but it's begun again in earnest, and un like yesterday's now expired "weather statement," we now have a new winter storm watch through Saturday morning, one predicting as much as another foot and more. After such long dry seasons, we can only hope.

And we can only hope that we don't need to go anywhere today. Wings had gone into town to the feed store when it began, and it turned to near-whiteout conditions fast. I was so relieved when he got home, and I don't want either of us to need to go anywhere in this.

The snow is a gift, yes, but still no rest or respite from what's looming, particularly on the medical front. I never have a moment's peace from that, so holiday season or no, shares are still much needed and much appreciated. I've just posted Wings's newest works, a return to an older series with what will ultimately be six new entries. The first three are here. If the other three are complete later today, I'll add them; if not, they'll appear later this week. For purposes of sharing, here are all the regular links:
  • My new Patreon, The Interstices (Writing Between Worlds) (and if you subscribe today you won't be billed until January 1st for December);

Today is a day of mourning for us, and tomorrow, too; so was last Monday (not Christmas Eve; the week before). Somehow, the heavy snow seems fitting, a gentle benediction for the spirits of those who walked on on these days between two and ten years ago now. Four people, family and friends. Midwinter, indeed.

#ThrowbackThursday: The Light of an Evergreen World

Photo copyright Aji, 2018; all rights reserved.

It's #TBT at The NDN Silver Blog, with a throwback to two days ago, and a gift at once both deeply personal and seemingly possessed of a deeper, more universal message. It's a pair of Water Birds, ascendant, carrying with them in this suddenly-snowy winter the light of an evergreen world

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. These will never be duplicated, obviously, but if the general style speaks to your spirit, simply inquire via the site's Contact form; Wings can create a version uniquely your own. And, as always, sales are very much needed (especially now; "evergreen" has not, this year, stretched to covering well into five figures' worth of medical bills, and new ones are looming next week), so shares of the site links are much appreciated.

UPDATED with all six works: A Kaleidoscope of Radiant Winter Light

Photo copyright Aji, 2018; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's the first three a half-dozen entries in Wings's newest collection — or, more accurately, in his resumption of an older series, earrings devoted to the power and beauty of the light. There will be a total of are six in this grouping, and the first three they all appear here, just in time for the new year: works honoring dawn, dusk, and the day that bridges them, and works evoking the lights that keep us even in more difficult circumstances, all in a kaleidoscope of radiant winter light.

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. Inquiries via the site's Contact form. And, as always, sales are very much needed (more medical expenses coming up just after the first of the year, on top of the avalanche of existing bills), so shares of the site links are much appreciated.

Not much rest, but snow ostensibly on the way. New work by Wings, and sales always much needed.

Photo copyright Aji, 2018; all rights reserved.

Okay, so yesterday wasn't much of a day of rest. It was beautiful, though, despite the noticeable lack of snow. That is supposed to arrive today, although, as always, we'll believe it when we see it. Many of the peaks and slopes (although, notably, not the Ski Valley; the spirits are still angry over the recent desecrations), did get snow, though, clearly observable from here at our elevation. That alone is a gift.

Still, no rest from what's looming, particularly on the medical front. I never have a moment's peace from that, so holiday season or no, shares are still much needed and much appreciated. I've just posted Wings's newest works, a return to an older series with what will ultimately be six new entries. The first three are here. I hope everyone had a beautiful day yesterday, whether celebrated as Christmas or no, and I hope the remainder of your year sets the stage for your best and brightest new year yet.

A beautiful, blessed winter's day in the light.

Photo copyright Aji, 2018; all rights reserved.

At dawn on Christmas Eve, the light touches the earth in new places. Sometimes, we're even lucky enough to see it happen.

At last, a day more or less of rest. I'll be cooking, but much of it's already done. A friend hooked us up with a very small duck, and now that I have a real oven, it can be done properly, with wild rice and cornbread stuffing and an herbed sweet potato/squash mix on the side.

Rest for a day doesn't mean rest from what's looming, particularly on the medical front. I never have a moment's peace from that, so holiday or no, shares are still much needed and much appreciated:
  • My new Patreon, The Interstices (Writing Between Worlds) (and if you subscribe today you won't be billed until January 1st for December);

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate this day; a beautiful, blessed winter's day in the light for everyone.

Red Willow Spirit: Still In the Light

Photo copyright Wings, 2018; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's a Christmas edition of Red Willow Spirit, with a reminder of more ancient gifts and the obligations that attend them. It's a meditation on the need to acknowledge sun and warmth, illumination and fire, to find those moments of silence and peace and simply to be, still in the light of winter of the season.

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. As always, his photos are available for purchase in any of the usual three formats; simply inquire via the site's Contact form. And, as always, sales are very much needed (that never ends, especially through the hard months of winter), so shares of the site links are much appreciated.

Lights, and exhaustion, and never giving up. Sales still needed; subscribers and shares, too.

Photo copyright Aji, 2018; all rights reserved.

After days upon days of trying, we finally got the lights done . . . yesterday. Out in the bitter cold. To be clear, they've been mostly up for a while, but figuring out where the problem is for those that won't light up? That takes time we haven't had. We pulled out the old regular lights this year instead of the farolitos; the latter look beautiful, but they're not all that sturdy, and the several of the "bags" disappeared last year in high winds. They're also harder to secure in place.

The forecast said a snow shower before dawn, of which I saw absolutely no evidence; supposedly no other weather until tomorrow afternoon or evening. Heavy clouds at the moment, though, the kind that hold snow, and I never give up hoping.

I never give up on other fronts, either, no matter how tired I am. And believe me, "tired" doesn't cover it anymore. As I said yesterday, I was apparently silly enough to think that things might slow down enough this weekend that we might have a little time just to be. Nope. It's apparently endless. Between this bug and the effects of the wind on my breathing and my autoimmune disease, I'm even slower than usual — my pain levels are . . . something right now. And I still have to chase $$, no matter the date, because these medical bills don't pay themselves.

Which also means, as I keep saying, that I also have to spend today (EVERY day) on work that brings in that actual scratch, sales or subscribers or otherwise. Whatever else is bearing down on me, that always has to be Job 1. Ordinarily, the sales and commissions we get this time of year are what see us through six long hard months of winter (but that has not the been the case the last couple of years); on top of ordinary winter cost of living and now this construction mess, I have more tests upcoming soon on top of the tens of thousands of dollars' worth of medical debt already trying to drive me into an early grave. Time is short for the holidays, so if you have special orders, get them in to me now so he has time to create them for you. For now, though, I'm so far behind on this day (and on the week as a whole) that I'll never catch up, so most of the rest is cut-and-paste.

Most of my attention has to be focused on bringing in money, through sales or subscribers or any other means, because the bills don't pay themselves, either, and the heavy burden I'm carrying on that score is inhibiting my ability to heal in a not-insignificant way. Please share these routinely:
  • My new Patreon, The Interstices (Writing Between Worlds) (and if you subscribe today you won't be billed until January 1st for December);
  • Wings's site, for sales, with new items posted;
  • Wings's direct PayPal link;
  • A way to buy me coffee (which actually goes to all of our medical bills, which continue to mount);
  • Amazon wishlist, which mostly consists of animal and household stuff;
  • Partial registry #1, from Bed, Bath and Beyond. There are new kitchen-y things on it now, stuff that I didn't realize we'd need to replace (either because the RV ruined it or because we gave it away when we had to downsize).
Please share the links. We're now officially into holiday order season, because commissions take time, so if you're planning on holiday gifts, please keep Wings's work in mind. And given what we're up against, we won't turn away donations, either, because we simply can't afford it.

Monday Photo Meditation: To Acknowledge the Light

Photo copyright Wings, 2018; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's a photo meditation for a high holy day the world marks as Christmas Eve. It's also a lesson for us, on this day devoted to gifts and gratitude, to appreciate the gifts of warmth and illumination this land gives us, to greet it properly, to acknowledge the light.

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. As always, Wings's photos are available for purchase in any of the usual three formats; simply inquire via the site's Contact form. And, as always, sales are very much needed (especially now; new medical expenses looming just after New Year's on top of ~$30K of existing medical bills, and sales way down for the season thanks to a torched economy), so shares of the site links are much appreciated.

Ascending To and With the Light

Photo copyright Aji, 2018; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's Wings's newest work, completed only this morning and assuming the transcendent shape of a spirit with much meaning for both of us. It's a pair of earrings in the form of the Water Bird, holding pure illumination at their hearts — seemingly ascending to and with the light.

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. Inquiries via the site's Contact form. And, as always, sales are very much needed (especially now; holiday sales are way down, we made a payment one massive bill yesterday, and we have more medical expenses looming fast on top of the existing avalanche of medical debt), so shares of the site links are much appreciated.

Red skies, dangerously high winds, and cold to match. The medical bills aren't going away, so sales/subscribers/shares still needed, every day.

Photo copyright Aji, 2018; all rights reserved.

Dawn yesterday. No sun yet today; too early, and a lot of clouds. Theoretically, we could be getting snow this week; it would be nice if "red sky at morning" actually meant something now.

Out of order again today, because Wings has one more piece that he wants to finish up. He couldn't buff it yesterday afternoon, because the winds were dangerously high and cold (the buffer/grinder is outside), so it'll be a few hours before I have it up. It's beautiful, and I'm feeling covetous even without it being finished yet.

I was apparently silly enough to think that things might slow down enough this weekend that we might have a little time just to be. Nope. It's apparently endless. Between this bug and the effects of the wind on my breathing and my autoimmune disease, I'm even slower than usual — my pain levels are . . . something right now.

  • My new Patreon, The Interstices (Writing Between Worlds) (and if you subscribe today you won't be billed until January 1st for December);
  • Wings's site, for sales, with new items posted;
  • Wings's direct PayPal link;
  • A way to buy me coffee (which actually goes to all of our medical bills, which continue to mount);
  • Amazon wishlist, which mostly consists of animal and household stuff;

In the Prophetic Light of Truth

Photo copyright Aji, 2018; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's Wings's all-new collection of coils, the final entry in this series (but by no means the final coils, only the last collection in this group two-plus years in the making), completed yesterday on, appropriately enough, the Solstice. It's The Truth Collection, a series of spiraling jeweled hoops that embody a future promised long ago, reminding us that even now, we live in the prophetic light of truth.

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. Inquiries via the site's Contact form. And, as always, sales are very much needed (I sent off a hefty tax payment yesterday to get it in early before either holiday or shutdown, and more medical stuff is scheduled immediately after New Year's, on top of thee existing avalanche of medical bills), so shares of the site links are much appreciated.

Solstice light; dangerous winds on the way, and more medical bills, too. Sales still very much needed; subscribers and shares also help.

Solstice light. By then, though, the wind had picked up fairly drastically; it's going to be much worse (and much colder) today. I had to be out in it to help with various things, and I'm paying for it today: AI, lungs, and apparently fighting a bug, too.

Things are out of order today for a number of reasons. First and foremost, today will not be the slower-paced day for which I was hoping; too much to do that couldn't get done this last week. Second, Wings is dropping his new coil set today, the final collection in this particular series (there will be more coils to come, just not a part of this series, which has taken two-plus years to bring to fruition). That requires a total of nine posts by me to get it out there, and that's going to take some time. And, as I've already noted, I'm not going to have much time today anyway.

Solstice, and a not-quite-full moon. No rest, from work or bills. Sales very much needed; subscribers and shares, too.

Last night's not-quite-full moon for the longest night of the year. We will not, despite pop culture's insistence to the contrary, quite have a full moon for the Solstice, either; it'll be full tomorrow

Meanwhile, Solstice or no, our day is going to be extraordinarily busy. So much to do this time of year, even entirely unrelated to the holidays; add in the holidays and what it means for Wings's work, and Christmas Day is generally to the first in about two months that we can just sit down and breathe for a bit. It's especially hard this year, because my health is so compromised; I'm running on borrowed fumes now, and I know it, but there's nothing I can do about it. We have to survive, and that means  bringing in whatever scratch I can.

Friday Feature: The Hope and Promise of the Light

Photo copyright Aji, 2018; all rights reserved.

It's our Friday Feature at The NDN Silver Blog, with an elemental work perfect for this Solstice day. It's a flask featuring the spirit of Grandmother Turtle, she who gave the First People a new world — much as this day gives us a new world, and a new year, filled with the hope and promise of the light.

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. Inquiries via the site's Contact form. And, as always, sales are very much needed (especially now; another big tax payment outgoing today, new medical stuff scheduled right after New Year's, testing still to come, and ~$30K in accumulated existing medical bills), so shares of the site links are much appreciated.
