It's rare that you see the layers of the storm so clearly delineated as it approaches, but that was our western sky late yesterday and again earlier today. A dusting of snow overnight, an inch or maybe a little more here, probably less in town; just intermittent sleet/graupel and gale-force winds today. After wearing only a sweater, no jacket, outside yesterday, the wind chill this morning was 16 again. So much for the first day of official spring [yeah, I know, I know; it's not until just before 10PM tonight, which means that tomorrow is the first full day, but everyone's labeling it the 19th].
Anyway, Day 2 for us of near-full isolation. Full for me; Wings, however, insisted on going to the P.O. to pick up mail; one of the supplements I need and reordered so as to have enough to get through this is apparently there waiting. I am not going anywhere, not that that's at all unusual for me anyway.
Today was also the day he was planning to call the dentist to let him know that our doctor advised against it until July at the very earliest, possibly much later. However, he got a text from her this morning, which I assumed would be to advise him that the office was closed except for emergencies for the next few weeks to comport with the social distancing requirements of the COVID19 pandemic. NOPE. They wanted him to confirm his surgery appointment for next week. Which is, of course, an even bigger NOPE. he's right in the target category for this thing, diabetic, and it passes most easily by mouth with invasive procedures; are they kidding? So anyway, it's canceled for now, and we'll reschedule when the doc gives us the all-clear, but that's going to be a while. I just don't understand this; everything else is closing locally. Oh, and the local case of COVID19? Turns out the guy was up at the Ski Valley, which no doubt means he was all over in town, too. We've all been exposed one way or another, most likely; it's remote in the extreme that he would turn out to be the only case here.
My concern now is the bills. As I said yesterday, we got the farrier out and also got hay delivered, so the horses are set, and it wasn't even as costly as I was expecting, but still, we have to make up the difference. We've spent far more than we would ordinarily have done over the last two weeks, getting ready to quarantine ourselves, because we saw what was coming even if the so-called "leadership" of this country still refuses to acknowledge reality. We also shot what is for us an extraordinary amount of cash to various folks, mostly Indigenous and disabled, over the last few weeks, precisely because we could see what was coming, and most of them don't have the privilege we do of an isolated home with natural resources and hard experience to help keep us going.
And so the $700 for the vehicle stuff last week and the $300+ for medical and the unexpected need to help some other folks and the costs for the farrier, the hay, and the discing of the land to prep for reseeding this year are all combining to set us back a great deal. To add to it, we've had three sales total all year. Yup, 3. That's not going to keep us alive, and we still have taxes and other expenses to pay. At this point, I need to bring in about $4K in sales, subscriptions, Ko-fi, any source possible just to cover all of that. So please share all of our links, because while we're all in isolation? Income is going to be next to nothing otherwise, and we can survive the isolation, but not the inability to feed the maw of all the bills. The links are here:
Please share everything. Thanks.
