By yesterday evening, the skies had donned warbonnets. Even the earth feels the need to warrior up now.
This morning, on our way into town for an appointment and a couple of errands, we saw a couple of plumes of smoke at the base of the mountain. It's inexcuseable on any level. Yes, the winds were mostly quiet this morning, but they're howling again now, and we are going to have weeks on end of this, as everyone well knows. There's no excuse for this nonsense.
Then again, there's no excuse for any of the other nonsense we're getting from colonial governments at all levels, but here we are.
It's been a flatly awful week. Too much to do, too little time, too few resources. These destructive winds, making so much work impossible, and what has to be done outside damn near unbearable, never mind the way they turn my lupus into something from hell itself. I can barely walk; the pain is too much, and the crippling effects have impaired my ability to get any work done. All the reminders of loss, all the markers of grief.
And then there's the cost. It's not enough that the federal government is willing to kill us with COVID in service to the artifice of "The Economy"; they soaked us for four figures, with another four figures to come, and the first of three such payments toward next year, while they continue to steal our lands and ram through extractive colonizer projects on land over which they [should] legally have no control, all already in the process of destroying the land even further. If you don't know what I'm talking about, Google Line 3 and Line 5, among others, and know that Biden is doing this every bit as viciously and illegitimately as Trump ever did.
Add to that the fact that my Patreon is down by almost $100 this month, probably because folks are having to use that money to pay their own taxes, and it's a lot tighter than I expected it to be, enough so that I'm still contemplating canceling my appointment at the end of the month to start ketamine therapy for pain (it's hellishly expensive, $500 per treatment, and we have to pay cash, up front and in full). My pain levels are completely out of control right now, and they're crippling me in very literal terms, but I'm not sure we can afford this after all. After the tax nonsense is done, then we can worry about how we're going to save the land (and ourselves). Links are here:

We're still hoping to put aside enough for a new well when the ground thaws enough to drill in the spring, too, Nah, we've given up on the well. No one's available to drill before the latter half of summer, and the tax burden means we would never be able to afford it anyway. But it's perhaps even more of a good time to make a purchase, because Uncle Sam is a vindictive colonizer, and my current stress levels about paying it all are off the charts. And there's lots of fabulous work, so please share all of the links.
