Speaking of the work part . . . .

Photo copyright Aji, 2024; all rights reserved.

It has been a day, and nothing like I had planned. Nothing to do with Halloween, either, just this constant need for errands, and the constant nonsense with things that aren't ready days after they're supposed to be. It's also been an extremely costly day, so a sale tonight to offset all of it would be welcome in the extreme.

That up there is the latest with regard to the hide. Wings has old-style drawknives, and he's going to do the work by hand. As you can see, the staff are ready and waiting to help [they wish; those two have FAR too. much interest in that hide, because I'm sure to them it smells absolutely wonderful]. Meanwhile, I have all of the rest of today's work still to get done tonight, and an ever-growing task list for tomorrow and the weekend.

Speaking of the work part, that brings me to my latest thing locally. However badly needed, this new cold means that things are going to become urgent, emergent, very fast for our local houseless folks, and for those who are at risk of losing their homes, unable to afford to the keep the heat and lights on, and so on [and on and on and on and on and . . .] . As I said yesterday, we have both given up entirely on the toxic, poisoned colonial politics of this country, and we're turning our efforts daily toward finding actual, concrete ways to help folks. Y'all can help, too:  a GFM for a local family we know [his grandmother and aunt supply the beads y'all love in Wings's work, and despite what it says about Phoenix, he's coming home now] that needs a lot of help, here; and an Amazon wishlist for a group I was invited to join yesterday that does outreach to local houseless folks with pets, gearing up for winter with survival supplies, here. No amount of election nonsense is going to help these folks, but WE CAN, so go give.

And of course, there's more than enough that I need to get done around here. It starts with sales, of course. And as I also said, I'm also redoing what I highlight here. Wings has SO MUCH NEW WORK that I can't keep up with it all, and I imagine listing it all is a bit overwhelming, so I'm just going to highlight a few items each day. Today's #TBT feature is a pendant [from 2006 or so], so here are the six pendants that are actually in our current inventory:
  • "Meeting On the Bridge of Stars," as otherworldly as it sounds a naja set with a rare material, here
  • "The Breath of the Light," a slightly more slender naja, this one set at the ends with sunny amber, here
  • "Eagle Carries the Medicine of Earth and Sky," Eagle as you've never seen him, carrying earth and sky caught in an extraordinary stone, here;
  • "Growing Together," incredible freehand stampwork rising from an OLD Orville Jack faustite root, here;
  •  "The Last of the Storm," a phenomenal OLD cab of apple coral with Labradorite raindrops, here; and
  • "The Bare Blue Bones of Night," his newest, completed the other day, with pine cone in resin and hand-made ingot drops, here.

There's more on the way very soon. And I need to sell them all, because I still need to make sales weekly for us to catch up on the year and cover all the stuff still in the pipeline that needs covering [roof, more medical, etc.]. So: GO BUY! Links are here:

  • Sales here
  • Testimonials here
  • Amazon wishlist here (Priority is the liquid soaps and Amazon cards, probably most useful at this point);
  • Patreon here;
  • Ko-fi here.

After such a grim year, this one already far worse than the last, we really need to get what's left of 2024 onto a better footing, so please share all of the links.

#ThrowbackThursday: Gifts of Harvest Days and Haunted Nights

Photo copyright Wings, 2024;
all rights reserved.

It's #TBT at The NDN Silver Blog, with a #ThrowbackThursday featured work that dates back at least to 2006, perhaps even 2005, and a spirit being who brings not fear but abundance. It's a pendant, an entry in one of Wings's signature series of long standing, the Corn Maiden, perfect for this season's gifts of harvest days and haunted nights

The post is here. Wings's main page is hereAs always, this work will never be duplicated exactly, but if the possibilities it suggests speak to your spirit, simply inquire via the site's Contact form; Wings can create something uniquely your own. October ends at midnight, meaning that the first month the official start of the winter holiday creative season is already over. We need to bring in consistent sales at least weekly for the rest of the year, so shares are very much needed and much appreciated.

A sign. Of what? Don't know yet.

Photo copyright Aji, 2024; all rights reserved.

Of course, my hands are so slow anymore I couldn't shift the focus in time. But that bird? That's a bald eagle. He came to visit this morning, in company with a harrier, two dueling ravens, and one of the local red-tails, all of them screeching at each other.

Eagle, of course, is incredibly fast, and by the time I got out there, he was already vanishing into the mountains. But I got a good full view of him, white head and tail and all [a fully mature eagle] circling right over our east field, even if I couldn't get a decent shot.

It seems like a gift, but also a sign. Of what? Don't know yet. It did bring us a little snow [graupel, but still]. And Spirit knows there's a lot of work to do, and we all what tomorrow is, of course.

Speaking of the work part, that brings me to my latest thing locally. Today's weather is welcome in the extreme, but it also means that things are going to become urgent, emergent, very fast for our local houseless folks, and for those who are at risk of losing their homes, unable to afford to the keep the heat and lights on, and so on [and on and on and on and on and . . .] . Wings has SO MUCH NEW WORK that I can't keep up with it all, and I imagine listing it all is a bit overwhelming, so I'm just going to highlight a few items each day. Today's feature was a wide solid silver cuff, so here are the other five such cuffs in current inventory [the sixth is the feature, and not included here]:
  • "Light Music," big, bold, old-style, DEEP freehand scorework, here
  • "Following the Sun," more old-style freehand stampwork, cutwork, repoussé, here
  • "Love and Wisdom," Art Deco stampwork and freehand texturization, here;
  • "Flight of the Star Herd," a millwork and overlay tribute to my paint horse, here; and
  •  "Light Through Red Willows," also all fabulous freehand work; lighter weigh, here.

There's more on the way very soon. And I need to sell them all, because I still need to make sales weekly for us to catch up on the year and cover all the stuff still in the pipeline that needs covering [roof, more medical, etc.]. So: GO BUY! Links are here:

In a Season and Space of the Spirits

Photo copyright Aji, 2024; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's a masterwork of traditional Indigenous silversmithing, an old traditional design to remind us that we are blessed to live in the space of the spirits. It's also a work of extraordinary symbolism and talismanic power, one to be worn in a season and space of the spirits, at this time when humanity most needs needs the guidance of the sacred.

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. Inquiries via the site's Contact formOctober ends this week, meaning that the first month the official start of the winter holiday creative season is already over. Unexpected gifts.

Photo copyright Aji, 2024; all rights reserved.

Coming to the end of another hard month. October is always fraught, because it's the start of our holiday creative season, when we're both putting in ungodly hours. But it's also a month full of markers, some good, some very, very bad, and everything in between. It's the month of my birth, and I share a birthday with a few other friends, but one walked on suddenly last year; several other friends have birthdays elsewhere in the month, but one who is very dear to me suddenly ghosted me in the first year of the pandemic, no explanation. And yes, I miss them. This month is also the anniversary of the first night we slept in our home [the 6th]; the day two of our dogs were stolen from us six years ago [the 24th]; Indigenous Peoples' Day, which is mixed, especially given what it supplants; and, of course, Halloween. And Indigenous Peoples' Day, the actual date, is the same as the anniversary of my sister's murder, and this year, the memories were for some inexplicable reason especially painful.

But sometimes, there are unexpected gifts in all of it.

An example is up there. Our friend Tony, who helped build our house? We buy firewood from him, too. He went deer hunting last week; got one. He brought the hide to Wings. As a gift. He even preserved the tail; just look at that beautiful thing. And these are the things I need to remember. There is so much good, in a world filled with so much bad.

Speaking of which, that brings me to my latest thing locally. Today's feature was a solid silver cuff, a slender one, so here are the other four such cuffs in current inventory [the fifth is the feature, and not included here]:
  • "Angles of Illumination," with gorgeous Art Deco stampwork, here
  • "A Cosmic Breath," freehand stampwork and incredible overlay, here
  • "A Flowering Radiance," delicate but with amazing wraparound filework, here;
  • And "Luminous Night," also delicate, but with cosmic imagery, here

Red Willow Spirit: Spirit, Light, and Sacred Fire

Photo copyright Wings, 2024;

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's an edition of Red Willow Spirit for a week of spirits in a time and a world both haunted and haunting now. It's two particularly apt images linked by a single work of wearable art, together manifest in this season's gifts of spirit, light, and sacred fire.

You can feel the change on the air.

Photo copyright Aji, 2024; all rights reserved.

Beautiful clouds this morning. For a while, it looked like the rain might arrive a day early, but no. What we do have are trickster winds, though, and you can feel the change on the air.

We can only hope.

But that means that things are going to become urgent, emergent, very fast for our local houseless folks, and for those who are at risk of losing their homes, unable to afford to the keep the heat and lights on, and so on [and on and on and on and on and . . .] . Wings has SO MUCH NEW WORK that I can't keep up with it all, and I imagine listing it all is a bit overwhelming, so I'm just going to highlight a few items each day. Here are four of his newest pairs of earrings, small solid silver tabs, each with unique freehand stampwork and each at a lower price point than most of his work:
  • "Atmospheric Magic," with gorgeous border and texture work, here
  • "Father Sun's Journey," again, all freehand border and texture work, here
  • "The Radiant Hours," with an Art Deco sensibility, here;
  • And "What Goes Up," Deco meets Modern and my personal favorites, here

Monday Photo Meditation: The White Fire of Shelter

Photo copyright Wings, 2024;

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's a Monday Photo Meditation for this week when the doorways to other planes of existence are said to be most permeable, that time in the newly cold season when the spirits walk. It's an image that dates back nearly twenty years, shot by Wings on film in black and white and capturing the beauty of the white fire of shelter, of warmth and light and spiritual safety.

The clouds are gathering slowly.

Photo copyright Aji, 2024; all rights reserved.

The last of the color, but there's still lots of it. That's thanks to 70-degree highs lately, and lows that, once again, aren't even getting out of the 40s. It's ridiculous.

It's also supposed to change, at long last, starting Tuesday evening. We'll see. We need some seasonal cold, some repeated hard freezes, and of course, some snow. The clouds are gathering slowly today, but it's enough to make me hope the forecast might be right.

In the meantime, far too many of the metaphorical clouds in this world, including locally. Far too much suffering, and nobody giving a damn. We have both given up entirely n the toxic, poisoned colonial politics of this country, and we're turning our efforts daily toward finding actual, concrete ways to help folks. Today's feature is a pair of solid silver earrings, so here are four additional pairs, each unique and each at a lower price point than most of his work, that he's completed in recent months:
  • "A Long Rain of Stars," 3"-long dangle earrings here
  • "The Light of Peace," saw-cut peace-sign earrings here
  • "A Circle of Starlight," stamped mini-hoops here;
  • And "Insight," more mini-hoops in a subtle design, here

Bare Branches and Bark, Old Bones and Older Spirits

Photo copyright Aji, 2024; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's a work to honor our arboreal relatives as they appear throughout the majority of the year, skeletal branches and bark still protecting life and breath. It's a pair of earrings hand-milled in the old way, each animated by its own distinctive identity, together a tribute to this season of bare branches and bark, old bones and older spirits.

The first signs of a change in the weather.

Photo copyright Aji, 2024; all rights reserved.

Another beautiful day, again, far too warm, but at least the first signs of a change in the weather are building in the west/northwest now. We're supposed to get something on Tuesday, and the temperature is supposed to drop to much more seasonal levels; we can only hope.

Going absolutely nowhere today, or tomorrow. If we make any sales this weekend, I'll likely need to go to the post office on Monday to ship, but that's it. After yesterday [and the rest of the week] I am wiped out, every single bone in my body hurts, and I need time for it to recover the degree that it can [which isn't much, but I know that I can't keep going at this level].

And as I said, Spirit knows there's more than enough that I need to get done around here. It starts with sales, of course. And as I also said, I'm also redoing what I highlight here. Wings has SO MUCH NEW WORK that I can't keep up with it all, and I imagine listing it all is a bit overwhelming, so I'm just going to highlight a few items each day. Today I'm repeating the three brand-new works from the other night, that's what's below, plus one existing work that matches one of the new ones [the new Cripple creek earrings are from the same parcel as his recent cuff, so I'm linking them together here], but tomorrow I'll switch it something different for the new week:
  • "An Atmospheric Love" Skystone heart earrings here
  • "Sacred Waters, Sacred Sky" Cripple Creek earrings here
  • "Sacred Spring," the matching Cripple Creek cuff, here;
  • And "The Bare Blue Bones of Night" pendant, pine cone in resin, here

There's more on the way very soon. And I need to sell them all, because I still need to make sales weekly for us to catch up on the year and cover all the stuff still in the pipeline that needs covering [roof, more medical, etc.]. So: GO BUY! Links are here:

Weaving a World to Survive the Haunted Times

photo copyright Aji, 2024; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's one of Wings's newest works, a pair of earrings perfectly suited to this eerie season, and to the spirits at work weaving the web of night. It's a meditation on their gifts, and on the risks to the lands they inhabit, reminding us that the task of weaving a world to survive the haunted times falls to us now.

A few clouds.

Photo copyright Aji, 2024; all rights reserved.

A few clouds today, for the first time since the weekend rains. Supposedly we'll be getting a few days of precipitation again starting next Tuesday, so maybe this is the start of that shift. Who knows? It's still 20 degrees too warm here.

It's been a hell of a day, and I don't mean that in any kind of good way. It's why everything's late, and I am absolutely wiped. Part of it involved dog wrangling, and my joints can't handle that the way they used to. But it's done, and so are a few other tasks, now I just have to get the day's regular tasks done, and then I can collapse.

And hopefully not go anywhere at all for at least a week.

Spirit knows there's more than enough that I need to get done around here. It starts with sales, of course. And as I said yesterday, I'm also redoing what I highlight here. Wings has SO MUCH NEW WORK that I can't keep up with it all, and I imagine listing it all is a bit overwhelming, so I'm just going to highlight a few items each day. Tonight I'm repeating the three brand-new works from the other night, that's what's below, plus one existing work that matches one of the new ones [the new Cripple creek earrings are from the same parcel as his recent cuff, so I'm linking them together here], mostly because I'm too tired to do anything else:
  • "An Atmospheric Love" Skystone heart earrings here
  • "Sacred Waters, Sacred Sky" Cripple Creek earrings here
  • "Sacred Spring," the matching Cripple Creek cuff, here;
  • And "The Bare Blue Bones of Night" pendant, pine cone in resin, here

Friday Feature: Bridges, Crossroads, Spaces Between Worlds

Photo copyright Aji, 2024; all rights reserved.

It's our Friday Feature at The NDN Silver Blog, with a pair of works built around a rare indigenous material, a pendant and bracelet that were created wholly independently but that clearly are perfectly suited to each other. It's an old-style naja and classic cuff, each set with a local staurolite, both symbolizing bridges, crossroads, spaces between worlds where now the spirits walk, and where they offer us a glimpse, and hope.

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. I'll take it.

Photo copyright Aji, 2024; all rights reserved.

Another day of utterly cloudless skies in all directions. It was at least as warm as yesterday, right around seventy, but a brisk wind all day made it feel cooler.

And it has been a day.

I stood in line at the pharmacy for . . . the fourth time, I think, in the last seven days, trying to get Wings's scrip. They finally had it, so hopefully I won't need to go back for anything next week. Standing and walking for long periods really jacks my joints, and I'd like to have a week of not having to do it, frankly. On the plus side, my own new meds have seen to it that I've had a whole week's worth of solid sleep, more hours of sleep in that time than most of this year combined. And it's a stimulant! But it's working. Might not help the pain, but if I can sleep, and have my brain back when I'm awake? I'll take it.

New mutual aid group is live. I imagine it'll be a very slow process, but maybe by this time next year, it'll be more or less self-sustaining; I just want to help the local folks who are being pushed out by colonialism daily now. I've got a lot more other work to do offline yet this week, involving dogs, involving helping Wings, involving getting caught up on things, and since there are only a couple of days left in the week, I need to get cracking on all of it.

And I'm also redoing what I highlight here. Wings has SO MUCH NEW WORK that I can't keep up with it all, and I imagine listing it all is a bit overwhelming, so I'm just going to highlight a few items each day. Since he has three brand-new works from the other night, that's what's below, plus one existing work that matches one of the new ones [the new Cripple creek earrings are from the same parcel as his recent cuff, so I'm linking them together here]:
  • "An Atmospheric Love" Skystone heart earrings here
  • "Sacred Waters, Sacred Sky" Cripple Creek earrings here
  • "Sacred Spring," the matching Cripple Creek cuff, here;
  • And "The Bare Blue Bones of Night" pendant, pine cone in resin, here

There's more on the way very soon. And I need to sell them all, because I still need to make sales weekly for us to catch up on the year and cover all the stuff still in the pipeline that needs covering [roof, more medical, etc.]. So: GO BUY! Links are here:

  • Sales here
  • Testimonials here
  • Amazon wishlist here (Priority is the liquid soaps and Amazon cards, probably most useful at this point);
  • Patreon here;
  • Ko-fi here.

After such a grim year, this one already far worse than the last, we really need to get what's left of 2024 onto a better footing, so please share all of the links.

#TBT: The Silver Spark of Cosmic Spirits

Photo copyright Wings, 2024; all rights reserved.

It's #ThrowbackThursday at The NDN Silver Blog, with a #TBT featured work in a classic traditional style that dates back, if memory serves, to late summer or early fall of 2008. It's a pair of concha earrings wrought in the old shape and style and set with a pair of glossy onyx cabochons, like the silver spark of cosmic spirits igniting in the dark hours.

The post is here. Wings's main page is hereAs always, this work will never be duplicated, but if the possibilities it suggests speak to your spirit, simply inquire via the site's Contact form; Wings can create something uniquely your own. It's October, and for us, the official start of the winter holiday creative season, and we need to bring in consistent sales at least weekly for the rest of the year, so shares are very much needed and much appreciated.

Investment.

Photo copyright Aji, 2024; all rights reserved.

His latest investment. No, you don't want to know what all of that cost; it'll leave you speechless. But it's an investment in his work. it was also triggered by a phone call today, with a special order with tight time constraints, and some very unusual specs — so much so that I realized that is current inventory of beads weren't of the right sizes to cover what's needed.

So a trip to the local experts, plus the pharmacy, who did NOT have the scrip their employee ordered in front of me seven days ago, while I watched [it's not her fault; it's theirs], so now we have to go back again tomorrow. There were other errands today, too, which is why everything is so late, and while I thought all I had left was wrangling the pups to the vet on Friday, nope; I don't get a day's reprieve to do what I need to be doing here. [And the pups are going to be a nightmare, because they are strong, and they don't like being leashed. But it's their 3-year vax appointment, and they're gonna have to deal (as am I with all the joint pain that will be the fallout from it)].

Still trying to get the mutual aid group page up. I'm working unholy hours right now, and there still are not enough hours in the day. I will probably be up half the night tonight, because we didn't get back in time for the dose of some of my meds at a time that won't keep me awake, but I guess I can just work on this stuff, if nothing else. I also have stuff to get in order for him for today's order, and for other work he has planned for inventory.

Also, speaking of which, help us help other folks, and buy! I posted two new pairs of earrings last night, here and here, and a new pendant that's frankly spectacular, made of a very unusual material, here. I also posted four new pairs of earrings last week, and the only pair left is here. The week before, I posted the four new pairs of sterling silver tab earrings, all with Deco-infused stampwork and at a lower price point than most of his earrings: hereherehere, and here. That new necklace I'd been talking about [it's phenomenal] is here. In addition, his new naja pendant is up, here, and his new cuff, here. The former features both an interior pendant and amber cabs at the ends; the latter is extraordinary, two strands of Deco butterflies set with something that's not a stone, but is phenomenal all the same. The first links are the four pairs of sterling silver tab earrings with amazing stampwork that I promised. If I could sell them all, I'd feel a lot more confident about the next several weeks.

The rest of the month [hell, the rest of the year] is going to be geared around making sales, because I don't have a choice about that. I'm so tired after all the nonsense of this year to date, but I can't let up, because so far, we're not even breaking even on the year, and I will have to worry about next year's tax bill soon enough. But there's tons of new work on the site, in addition to all that's coming up shortly [which I believe includes two new pairs of turquoise earrings and two new simple pendants within the next few days], so go look:

  • A new stackable solid silver cuff with a Deco influence, here;
  • The last pair of the new Picasso jasper earrings in current inventory, here;
  • Two absolutely phenomenal new cuffs, here [landscape jasper] and here [extraordinary freehand stampwork];
  • An all-new wristband set with turquoise and malachite, here;
  • One extraordinary new belt buckle set with an incredible Skystone, here;
  • Another new vintage-style cuff with a mysterious Skystone, here;
  • Two new pairs of earrings in his gemstone-bead series, here, and here [$175 each];
  • Three new cuffs ftwo set with incredible turquoise focals, one solid silver; go herehere, and here.
  • Five pairs of new concha floral earrings in the Earrings Gallery here [larger are garnet, golden rutilated quartz, and malachite; the remaining smaller ones are amber and iolite];
  • A truly breathtaking Art Deco Labradorite cuff here
  • Triangle wire youth bangle here
  • Art Nouveau vine pattern-wire youth bangle here
  • Small Art Nouveau pattern-wire bangle pair here
  • Malachite butterfly/leaf-wing earrings here
  • A BIG, bold, solid silver classic cuff here
  • Five other remaining new pairs of the gemstone-bead earrings are also up in the Earrings Gallery;
  • And another new seasonal cuff, set with snowflake obsidian, is also here

There's more on the way very soon. And I need to sell them all, because I still need to make sales weekly for us to catch up on the year and cover all the stuff still in the pipeline that needs covering [roof, more medical, etc.]. So: GO BUY! Links are here:

Fires Of and For the Spirits

Photo copyright Aji, 2024; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's a masterwork perfect for this season of deepening cold and dark in a world born from ancient fires that need our tending now. It's a truly extraordinary phenomenon of Indigenous silverwork and creative choices, one manifest as the fires of and for the spirits that likewise tend the flames of our own survival.
