An Update on the Home-Building Project

We are almost there for this first stage . . . but not quite.

As you know from my post here last week, right after we launched Stage 1 of our crowdfunding project to build a real home after five years without one, our well pump died. We were fortunate that the plumber from the original install managed to squeeze us in last Monday, and we have a new pump — but he discovered during the install that the sensor on the pump switch was shot. It's a potentially catastrophic situation, which meant that, until he could replace the switch, we had to load up the water tank manually multiple times a day, turning the breaker on and off again immediately so as not to accumulate dangerous amounts of pressure. It's not a difficult process, but it's multiple repetitive steps, one I have to perform several times a day.

He had thought he might be able to do it Thursday (as in four days ago). Now, the earliest will be tomorrow (and that's assuming that he didn't forget the date, and isn't one of those folks who considers Genocidal Invaders' Day a business holiday). So we're still dealing with this makeshift method of loading the tank. Not a huge deal.

Unfortunately, in the meantime, one of two boxes at the main breaker blew. Wings's brother-in-law is supposed to be out tomorrow to help us with some things, and we'll have him test it then, but it's looking like that box will have to be replaced. That may also be the case with the toilet in the place, which has suddenly developed a very bad leak. [Sigh] apparently five years in this place is one year too much, and we're now heading into our sixth winter here, so I expect that things will continue to be . . . challenging, shall we say.

On a more positive front, Wings is planning to call tomorrow (if the place is open) to schedule the first delivery of fill, then call to schedule the moving of the portable building that serves as our gallery. If all goes as we hope, those two initial steps may be complete by week's end, in which case, we can schedule the fill for the house site.

I'm starting to believe it will really happen.
