A Last Red Fire

Photo copyright Aji, 2018; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's one of Wings's big, bold works wrought in the shade of the season and the shape of the rain. It's all built around a stone named for red flowers, but on this gray and rainy day, one that evokes the scarlet maple leaves, a last red fire before winter's return.

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. Inquiries via the site's Contact form. And, as always, sales are very much needed (especially now, with medical bills bearing down heavily and tax payments too), so shares of the site links are much appreciated.

Storm coming. Financial storm already here, and gaining strength.

Photo copyright Aji, 2018; all rights reserved.
Beautiful landscape . . . except for the sign for that raging idiot Gary Johnson marring indigenous lands. Political signs are illegal on tribal lands without the owner's express consent, but that doesn't stop them. When it's on Wings's land? Nope. [No more than those ghastly pink pussy hats some colonizing white woman trespassed to stick on every fencepost on the tribal side last year. They disappeared with a quickness, too (no, not by us, but people rightly weren't having that nonsense).]

Today, that landscape has been returned to its near-pristine appearance.

It's colder now than it was at dawn; there was a storm moving in anyway, and now we're supposed to get the runoff from Willa on top of that tonight and tomorrow. There'll be flurries, at a minimum, before it's over. It was over 65 yesterday, close to 70, in fact. My joints are screaming at me now. The financial storm, of course, is already here and gaining strength; we'll have to send in another tax payment in a couple of weeks, and the hounding from the medical bills is never-ending.

Trying to get lots of things caught up before the real weather hits. As I said yesterday, Wings got three new pairs of earrings done over the weekend (in addition to the three from earlier last week), and I posted them here. The rest is cut-and-paste, because I'm way behind, there's a ton of stuff to get done yet before the real rain gets here, and I'm slower than molasses anymore.

Spirit knows we need sales now, and desperately. Repairs on both vehicles are paid, as well as a bunch of other stuff that needed to be paid now, and we squeezed out a little to help his clan brother out with heat. But the tax bill is going to haunt us for a very long time to come, to say nothing of the five figures' worth of medical bills remaining, and I have to send in something substantial on the latter, and soon. Like I said yesterday, I am exhausted, physically, mentally, and every other way, with the rapid-fire weather changes playing hell with my autoimmune disease and with my breathing issues (the cold is back morning and night, and so is my shortness of breath, in a very big way), so the rest is cut-and-paste.

I've been saying that I don't see a way to claw us out of this hole. I still don't. And it's hard to think when illness fogs your brain as badly as it does mine. There's nothing I can do right now except what I've done my whole life, which it just to keep putting one foot in front of the other. I have to make some sales, I have to find a way to bring in major amounts right now, and I don't know how, but I've got to get work trying. Wings has new work out, six brand-new pairs of earrings, and they're fabulous. It would be a small start.

We need sales, badly. Never moreso, frankly. What follows are links that are a means of helping a little bit. I am sick, body, mind, heart, and spirit, and there's no room for anything else:
Please share the links. We're now officially into holiday order season, because commissions take time, so if you're planning on holiday gifts, please keep Wings's work in mind. And given what we're up against, we won't turn away donations, either, because we simply can't afford it.

Red Willow Spirit: The Red Willows' Spirits

Photo copyright Wings, 2018; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's an edition of Red Willow Spirit for the seasonal reds of October's end. It's a tribute, too, to the plant that names people and place, to the red willows' spirits and the strength and solidity of their example.

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. As always, his photos are available for purchase in any of the usual three formats; simply inquire via the site's Contact form. Also as always, sales are very much needed (never more so, with medical bills hanging heavy and another tax payment due very soon), so shares of the site links are much appreciated.

Logs and votes. Also weather on the way, along with endless medical bills. Sales, subscribers, and shares all needed now.

Aspen. Burns cleaner than the others, and thus helps keep the flues clean, too. We rotate and combine it with piƱon, oak, and red cedar. We had to help Wings's clan brother out with money for propane, so he's cutting and splitting aspen for us in trade. Thank all that's holy that we have the woodstoves instead propane or electric heat. This house is never cold and a good thing, too; snow supposed to be arriving tomorrow night).

Everything is late today for multiple reasons. First was errands: Wings had a dental appointment; we went to vote (and left one race blank for reasons I'll explain . . . someday; we both did it); and we picked up groceries and other supplies. I've also had to get some time away from everything over the last few days, and now I have to catch up. My energy is at a very low ebb now, with these rapid-fire weather changes, and it's taking me a long time to do what used to be simple and quick, so only expect to see/hear from me when it actually happens. Wings did manage to get three new pairs of earrings done over the weekend, and I posted them last night, here. The rest is cut-and-paste, because I'm beat, it's late, and there are evening chores to do before the weather hits and dinner to make yet.

Spirit knows we need sales now, and desperately. Repairs on both vehicles are paid, as well as a bunch of other stuff that needed to be paid now, and we squeezed out a little to help his clan brother out with heat. Monday Photo Meditation: The Color of Fire

Photo copyright Wings, 2018; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's a photo meditation for late October, right in the middle of the seasonal reds. It's perfect for a day such as this, too, when the storm has arrived early and the rain will turn to snow in a day or so — a reflection on the color of fire and the nature of its flames, whether on the earth or in the woodstove.

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. As always, Wings's photos are available for purchase in any of the usual three formats; simply inquire via the site's Contact form. also as always, sales are very much needed (never more so, with medical bills bearing down heavily and tax payments, too), so shares of the site links are much appreciated.

New work by Wings just dropped tonight: seasonal earrings!

Photo copyright Aji, 2018; all rights reserved.

I've been promising all weekend to post Wings's latest as soon as they dropped. That time is now, and even though it's Sunday night, I know a lot of folks will still be online because, well, end of weekend, football on TV, and tomorrow's Monday and nobody wants to think about that. So, without further ado, three new pairs of earrings:

The first are the ones shown above. They're called Edge of Autumn, and the reason should be clear from the stones, but if it's not, the description will make it plain. You can read the whole thing here. One note about this pair: The green is a little brighter, a little less dusky, than in the photo. It's kind of a spring green, although the golden-bronze color of the matrix comes through pretty true. In other words, the stones are more beautiful than in the photo.

The next fall into the category of autumn reds:

These are made with what's known as Red Creek jasper, and it's nothing short of amazing. These are also the first entry in what will eventually be a collection in miniature; he has two more cabochons that match these, but they are larger and better suited to single use, e.g., for a necklace and bracelet or some such combination. They will be coming before too long, but no drop date yet; he has to order some materials for those pieces.

Back to the earrings, though: These are called Night Fire (and the collection will be the Night Fire Collection when it's complete). You can read their full description here.

And finally, the pair that I think are probably my favorite:

These are called Winter Light, and you'll see why if you look at the photo on the site. These are also some truly spectacular cabochons — Labradorite, and banded with blues like you've never seen, pure cobalt. They also have beautiful backs, all hand-hammered. You can read the full description here. [Click on the photos, all of them. Seriously, click on the photos.]

They're all at middling price points for his range. If you want to order, you can reach me via the site's Contact form here, or via DM on Facebook or Twitter.

A clear dawn, but heavy weather on the way. Heavy weather WRT the bills is already here. Sales, subscribers, and shares all badly needed.

Photo copyright Aji, 2018; all rights reserved.

Dawn yesterday that was that rarest of October sunrises: a perfectly clear sky. Bitterly cold then, with a hard northeast wind, but it warmed up by midday, near seventy. It was a beautiful day for a birthday, and one that, except for dinner, I spent working pretty much nonstop (the other kind of work, not the online kind).

A lot more work lined up for today, too. I'm hoping Wings has a chance to finish the earrings he's got in the works so that I can post them today, but it may have to wait for later in the week; we've allegedly got weather on the way by Tuesday. Even so, Spirit knows we need sales now, and desperately.
