Birthday flowers.

From Wings: birthday flowers. Also takeout for dinner, so I didn't have to cook, and dessert is still waiting for us. Yes, cake, and churros, too. Since we so rarely get takeout, and even more rarely get dessert, today seemed a good day to make an exception.

It's been a work day, though, in a major way. Yes, it's this way every year, but I lost so much time over the last week, between the Internet outage, my pain levels, and the extreme crippling of my hands and feet, that with my hands a little more functionally finally, I had to start trying to get caught up. Which means that I've overdone it, and probably also means that I'll be useless tomorrow, but here we are. Again.

Even so, I'm still so far behind that it's ridiculous. The rest of the month, hell, year is going to be very hard, anyway. I've still got to get caught up on all the rest of my work, entirely apart from the now-several days I've lost here. And I've still got to bring in a lot more sales through the end of the year. This year has been hellishly expensive already, and we've also got some other big-ticket things to take care of between now and then, and that only happens if we make some sales now. And we can still use help with shares, testimonials, wishlist stuff, etc. To that end, links are here:

  • Sales here;
  • Testimonials here;
  • Amazon wishlist here [I've added a few new items, things we could really use but that I can't justify spending money on right now, namely the towels and the second bath mat];
  • Patreon here;
  • Ko-fi here.
And we do still need to make those regular weekly sales, so please share all of the links. We really do need to get this year onto a better footing than the last two, a year that, so far, has been very grim.

Red Willow Spirit: Fog's Shadows and Fall's Fire

Photo copyright Wings, 2026; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's an edition of Red Willow Spirit for the week in October that is, generally speaking, the most starkly beautiful period of fall here. It's three related photographic images linked by two works of wearable art from the same category, one of them new, all of them capturing the beauty and power inherent in fog's shadows and fall's fire in this place.

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. Inquiries via the site's Contact form. We still have to ensure that we break even on the year, and that begins with a minimum of one sale a week, without fail.

Monday.

It's been a Monday. Beautiful light, allegedly rain on the way now, but it's been a hard day.

It's also the last day on my personal year. This one has some significance, or rather, tomorrow does. And the hell of it is, I've been in so much pain that I'm just so tired.

I hope this year gets easier.

Meanwhile, I'm still so far behind that it's ridiculous. The rest of the month, hell, year is going to be very hard, anyway. I've still got to get caught up on all the rest of my work, entirely apart from the now-several days I've lost here. And I've still got to bring in a lot more sales through the end of the year. Monday Photo Meditation: Flurries, Flakes, and Fire

Photo copyright Wings, 2026; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's a Monday Photo Meditation for the second half of October, and a remembrance of what conditions now should be here. It's an image that Wings shot on film some 20 years ago, one of a series of [the other three of which will appear in tomorrow's post] that show clearly that this point in the season is meant to be one of flurries, flakes, and fire.

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. Inquiries via the site's Contact form. We still have to ensure that we break even on the year, and that begins with a minimum of one sale a week, without fail.

At least it *looked* like October.

Photo copyright Aji, 2026; all rights reserved.

That's what brought our tiny bit of rain today. You could barely call bit "rain"; it was more like mist, except the drops were actually defined. Tiny, but defined.

Far too warm today, but at least it looked like October, however briefly.

Just been a shitty day on every front. I think this is day four of my hands being completely mangled by RA and lupus, and I'm so over it already. And it's not just my hands; it's both feet, my neck, it's endless. And nothing works.

The Season of the First Snow

Photo copyright Aji, 2026; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's a work for the conditions that used to normal here in October, including the season's first appearance of the snow line, both above and below us. It's a pair of earrings, the last work in Wings's signature series within a series, The Winter Elementals:  Earth, capturing all the haunting beauty and power of the season of the first snow.

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. Inquiries via the site's Contact form. We still have to ensure that we break even on the year, and that begins with a minimum of one sale a week, without fail.

This is what it's like at this time of year.

Photo copyright Aji, 2026; all rights reserved.

More work in progress. This is what it's like at this time of year, every day, right up until Christmas.

And it's not just in the studio. There's so much work to be done outside, and I'm useless for most of it now that my illness has progressed so drastically. Aside from all the usual stuff, he also did a feed store run, stacked hay for Miika, stacked firewood, embedded humane traps for the destructive rodents that are tearing up everything, and . . . I forget what else, but there was more. And found time for studio work.

I am nowhere near so efficient with my own work right now. Not with two hands that are a broken mess, and two feet that are the same. Walking is extremely painful right now, to say nothing of how it wrecks my balance. My hands? Do you have any idea how long it takes me to type a single sentence with my left hand only? And that hand has a rupture, too; it's just less bad, less all-encompassing, than the one in my dominant hand right now.

The rest of the month, hell, year is going to be very hard, anyway. I've still got to get caught up on all the rest of my work, entirely apart from the now-several days I've lost here. And I've still got to bring in a lot more sales through the end of the year.
