Red Willow Spirit: A Storm That Brings Renewal and Rebirth

Photo copyright Wings, 2023; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's an edition of Red Willow Spirit for the trickster weather of threshold seasons, and for the resilience required to thrive in both. It's two images linked by two views of a single work of wearable art, all of them testament to that inherent strength, a strength and resilience likewise found within a storm that brings renewal and rebirth.

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. As always, his photos are available in any of the usual three formats; simply inquire via the site's Contact form. We will still need to make consistent sales in this fourth year of pandemic and loss, and there are many opportunities and occasions for gifts to come, so shares of the site links are much appreciated.

No wonder I'm tired all the time.

Photo copyright Aji, 2023; all rights reserved.

On full alert — and wisely so, because Cricket is a famed hunter of prairie dogs. What's notable this year is that these little dudes are not nearly as fat as recent years, so the ravages of the drought are getting to them, too.

Unfortunately, the land is even more ravaged, and these little beasts are overrunning it (due in no small part to colonial overdevelopment deliberately running them out of their own warrens, chasing them out here to overpopulate).

We're supposed to get a little snow overnight. More to the point, our high tomorrow is supposed to be half what it is today: 60 today, 30 tomorrow, and more of these deadly winds the whole time, which means that tomorrow's wind chill will likely hit single digits. This is the worst time of year for my joints, and they have been screaming at me for days now; almost no sleep last night because of the pain, and tonight's guaranteed to be more of the same. And my workload keeps building.

No wonder I'm tired all the time.

But since we still have to pay obeisance to this stupid colonizer government in the form of taxes, I need to get back to it. I said yesterday that I had two new works by Wings to post, and I've still had no time to deal with them. Hopefully that will get done tonight, so keep a watch in this space for them; they're already on the site, but I haven't had time to promote them. Haven't had time for much of anything, actually, even though I've been at it, full-bore, for three days now. Anyway, all of our links are here; emphasis on sales (because we'll probably be writing a big check to the colonizer tax man in a week or two) and testimonials for now:

  • Sales here;
  • Testimonials here;
  • Amazon wishlist here (the Zero-Odor sprays are the priority right now; the house smells constantly of wet dog at the moment, and we can't get these locally);
  • Patreon here;
  • Ko-fi here.

There's lots of fabulous work on the site, so please share all of the links.

Monday Photo Meditation: The Gifts of the Trickster Winds

Photo copyright Wings, 2023; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's a Monday Photo Meditation for the rapid shifts in weather and temperature that mark this month in particular here. It's a contemplation of what once we could expect and what is forecast now, and a reminder to be grateful when we can for the gifts of the trickster winds.

The whys and the whats.

Photo copyright Aji, 2023 all rights reserved.

You can stand outside in the middle of our land and turn in a circle, 360 degrees, and find not a single cloud in the sky. Not one tiny wisp.

Plenty of wind, though. The entire state is under a red-flag warning for today and several days to come, which should mean an automatic burn ban, but here's the thing: Colonial negligence is endless, and just as it started the fires that became last year's record megafire, it only issued a "strongly recommended against" warning for burning anything today.

So, of course, in Torrance County, on the flats east of Albuquerque where the wind blows year-round but at this season reaches all-out, full destructive force? There's a wildfire, right this minute, and they've begun evacuating people from their homes. These jackasses (the state officials) want to do a bunch of big prescribed burns just west of here in two weeks, and they're citing anti-science to justify it, and the drought is not gone, the climate patterns are not gone, and the winds will most assuredly not be gone in two weeks (no, they'll be hitting their peak and getting worse). And if they do this and it takes off, it's right on the wind path to us.

Meanwhile, avalanche season, and the ski resort is closed for several days not because the mountain's coming down around their ears, but because there's a water leak and there's no clean, useable water (because they stole it all, but whatever). That's another thing that should not exist in this place.

We're in for a rough year, and I'm not going to mince words about the whys and the whats. They want us silent and ignored, and we're not going to be quiet about the way they're killing the earth, the land and waters and air and sky.

In the meantime, we still have to pay obeisance to this stupid colonizer government in the form of taxes, and I need to get back to it. I said yesterday that I had two new works by Wings to post, but thanks to that nonsense, I've had no time to deal with them. I'll get to that sometime this evening, so keep a watch in this space for them; they're already on the site, but I haven't had time to promote them. The Medicine of Early Storms

Photo copyright Aji, 2023; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's one of Wings's newest masterworks, completed only last week and wrought freehand in glowing vintage style. It's a cuff, heavy and substantial, to honor the mountain lightning and the medicine of early storms the land needs so badly now.

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. Inquiries via the site's Contact form. We will still need to make consistent sales in this fourth year of pandemic and loss, and there are many opportunities and occasions for gifts to come, so shares of the site links are much appreciated.

Way too close for comfort.

Photo copyright Aji, 2023; all rights reserved.

I don't know whose bright idea this was, but as you can see, it's way, way too close for comfort. No, there's nothing more than a low breeze right now (8 mph, actually), but that can change in a heartbeat this time of year, and later today, the winds are supposed to hit 20 mph again.

Some folks never learn. Trouble is, they risk killing all the rest of us, and the land too, in the process. Witness your politicians' open and deadly betrayals of the last two weeks on climate collapse, just like their open and deadly betrayal on the pandemic.

In a while, I'll have those two new works up here; they're already on the site, but I haven't had time to promote them. Haven't had time for much of anything, actually, even though I've been at it, full-bore, for two and a half days now. Anyway, all of our links are here; emphasis on sales (because we'll probably be writing a big check to the colonizer tax man in a week or two) and testimonials for now:

A Departing Winter's Offering For Spring

Photo copyright Aji, 2023; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's one of Wings's more recent works, manifest in the form and shape of a tool of prayer and medicine. It's Eagle's feather as you've never seen it before, wrought to honor what remains year-round, and to deliver a departing a winter's offering for spring.

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. Inquiries via the site's Contact form. We will still need to make consistent sales in this fourth year of pandemic and loss, and there are many opportunities and occasions for gifts to come, so shares of the site links are much appreciated.
