Reminders of life.

Aspen leaves open like flowers.  It's a beautiful effect, especially when you can see them from overhead like this. And fortunately, we still have trees that are only just beginning to leaf. And I need all of the reminders of life I can get right now.

This is a hard day, made doubly hard this year. The holiday is painful for so very many reasons, but it's also the birthday of my late lost sister [not the one who was murdered; the other one, who killed herself slowly with alcoholism and hate]. Too many memories tied up with it all, and mostly they're bad. So to the extent that I make it through this day generally functioning, it'll count as a win.

And Spirit knows I've got more than enough work to do. Besides getting caught up on all my own, I need to promote the matching-funds offer for Jen's Spotfund for her truck repair. Lest you think that doesn't sound like a big deal, it is: When the anonymous donor offered this morning, $2,600+ was still needed. If we can raise $1,300 by midnight Wednesday [05/04]? And we've made a sales this weekend that gives us a little breathing room. That said, we're SO far behind on everything, courtesy of two frankly terrible years in a row with a ton of emergency expenses of the kind no one can anticipate, that I still need to bring in consistent weekly sales now. I still have to be able to pay the rest of this year's taxes and start prepaying next year's; I can't go through that nonsense again for another year in a row. I also have to cover the well pump replacement, the tires and another repair on the truck, and there are family things coming up that we'll have to help with one way or another. And Spirit only knows what's waiting for me health-wise, but I have to think in those terms, too, no matter how much I want to avoid it [and I suspect the bare minimum will be a bunch of costly labs at the end of this month, which, I should note, are actually more than a year overdue now].
