Vigas in; ceiling and upper story next week. Shares needed for what's to come.

The crew is done for the week; the crew chief needs tomorrow to take of personal business. They'll be back on Monday, and probably at work all five days straight next week.

You can see what they've accomplished in this week alone. Aside from getting the vigas up, they've also done all the notching and blocking to hold them in place, as well as more framework all the way around the bond beam, and over the downstairs bathroom, which requires a lowered ceiling for code and safety purposes and so has no viga across it.

The gap between the vigas in this shot, which is one the west side of the house, is there for a different reason: That's where the staircase will go. On either side of the house, there will be no obvious gaps from the exterior, because they've already cut "dummies" from the spare beam and begun blocking them into the frame atop the wall.

On Monday, they begin the ceiling work: tongue-and-groove woodwork in a herringbone pattern. They will also take delivery, possibly that early in the week, of the lumber for the entire upstairs framework. And while the last two weeks have been exceptionally costly, next week is likely to be our most expensive yet. The up-front costs for the wood required to do the framing are astronomical.

Of course, this means that we need to push shares even more than usual. We have about $4,800 left to raise to close out this stage of the fundraising for the project; next will be the upper level and the roof (and we may fold the interior work into that one, as well). We're going to need to raise every penny of that just to get this stage to completion. So please share the YouCaring page via the widgets provided, particularly via the widget code from the purple box at the lower right-hand corner, which gives you this image:

Please also continue to share the link to Wings's site. We've been blessed with a few more sales than usual the last few weeks, and we need to maintain that pace — not merely to pay ordinary expenses, but to go toward the construction costs, as well.

Lastly, my beloved kishik has posted a diary at the GOS tonight; please T&R it, and share that link, too.

Many thanks to everyone who has given us a hand thus far. We have a full day of tasks already overscheduled for tomorrow (and the weekend), but I'm trying to catch up, slowly but surely.
