Here, she is the new bird: leery, inquisitive, skittish, hopeful. Perhaps she has lost her way, or perhaps she detoured deliberately. She has returned a half-dozen times today, seemingly finding this a safe space for her solitary self.

If she returns tomorrow, she will no longer be so new.
