Five fat chickens. Yes, I know you probably only see three, but if you click on the photo, you'll see the two yellows: one in the gap at the base of the red willows, and one showing her featherbutt to the camera over at the bird feeder on the lower right. And no, that's not their run, but they like coming over here because there's always birdseed on the ground, and they're nothing if not greedy omnivores.

At least the earn their keep in eggs. Well, mostly. I'm making deviled eggs out of a few today, but it always seems like such a shame to crack the pale blue and speckled brown shells.

I'm stewing some pork in adobo for dinner; that and vegetables are my concession to some notion of "Easter dinner," even though we don't really celebrate Easter. The secular imprint of childhood memories for us both, I guess.

And a bit of a respite from thinking about the checks we're going to have to write for the rest of the year to pay this tax bill off and prepay for next year, too. No matter what I do, it's never enough. It's so tempting just to chuck it all, but this is our livelihood, and our vocation; it's what we do, and . . . ::sigh::. It would be nice if I could get a break from my illness, especially from the pain, but that's not going to happen thanks to same the government that demands 30% of the income small non-corporate businesses (you know, the ones they always pay lip service to supporting, but instead force us to carry the billionaires on our breaking backs). Yes, I am bitter, why do you ask?
