Like Halloween.

Photo copyright Aji, 2025; all rights reserved.

That was this morning. It was still sunny then, but those lenticular clouds spread rapidly, and well before noon, it was gray and autumnal and actually looked like Halloween.

Not now. The wind has blown all the clouds out, it's way to bright and sunny, and obviously, it means there is indeed no chance of rain.

I've spent this entire week trying to raise money to help folks through the SNAP crisis [artificial and wholly manufactured by people who are both criminals and just plain evil; Nazis and Klan, the whole fucking lot]. It's looking promising from a legal standpoint suddenly; the question, of course, is forcing compliance. So I'm not celebrating yet, and the folks who are most at risk will likely still need help.

But all of this means that I haven't spent nearly enough time chasing sales, and it's grim. I need to bring in a hell of lot more than we are now, and I can't do that without the time to, you know, do that. There is so much new work, and there will soon be a lot more that's newer still. Trouble is, after this god-awful year, we need to make a sale a day now, on average, and we're nowhere near that.

The last two years have all but killed us financially, and I need to get us caught up to make it through the end of the year. Among that new work is the pair of earrings I posted here the other day, which you can find here; the necklace I posted here a few days ago has a whole new bail, and I'm planning to get it up on the site yet tonight without fail. But whatever else, we [which means I] have got to change this trajectory, and fast. To that end, links are here:

And we do still need to make those regular weekly [daily now, really] sales, so please share all of the links. We really do need this to be a better month than what we've had so far this year.

Friday Feature: By Fire Do We Live and Thrive

Photo copyright Aji, 2025; all rights reserved.

It's our Friday Feature at The NDN Silver Blog, with a trio of matching works that are perfect for this haunting gray Halloween day [and night]. It's a triptych to honor the flames that warm and illuminate and protect, reminders all, as the cold and dark encroach, that by fire so we live and thrive, and so does our whole world.

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. Inquiries via the site's Contact form. Last year and this have been nightmares of catastrophic repairs and other astronomical costs, and the damage has been incalculable. We now need to bring in multiple sales each and every week to break even and make sure that basics are covered.

Apparently the bar is underground now.

Photo copyright Aji, 20255; all rights reserved.

That was this evening. Because of course, I can't get even a single uninterrupted half-hour to do my own work at a reasonable time.

It's pretty, though. But still way too warm, and no chance of any snow in the next fifteen days. [No chance of rain, either, but this time of year, it should be snow.] Winter's looking less likely all the time.

As far as metaphorical rain goes, it can't wait any longer, and yet here I am, doing everything but the things I need to be doing to keep us afloat. I need more hours in the day. A functioning country not run by monsters would help, but apparently the bar is underground now.

Like, in hell.

I clearly need to fix that, because all of this is destroying what little health I still have, but I can't do that until I fix the problem of no sales. I need to bring in a hell of lot more than we are now, and I can't do that without the time to, you know, do it.. And how I do any of that before January is beyond me, given what this season is like in terms of work, and also given how far behind we are thanks to this disastrous year. There is so much new work, and there will soon be a lot more that's newer still. Trouble is, after this god-awful year, we need to make a sale a day now, on average, and we're nowhere near that.

#ThrowbackThursday: Braiding Flame

Photo copyright Aji, 2025; all rights reserved.

It's #TBT at The NDN Silver Blog, with a #ThrowbackThursday work that dates back just shy of two months, to early September, and a very special commission for a friend. It's a baby bracelet, created for one the tiny new additions to her extended family, a design to signify the work of braiding flame into warmth, light, and the protection we owe all children in a world grown increasingly cold and dark.

They're small, but they're bright.

Photo copyright Aji, 2025; all rights reserved.

They're small, but they're bright.

We lost a lot of our corn crop this year; it was stunted by drought and soil aridification and the problems with early warming/late freezing in spring and summer. So what ears we did get are small, but the good ones? The color is intense. It's impossible to tell in the photo, but the one on the left is that deep purplish-red; the other three are all blue corn. I think there are a few more ears hidden deep and low in the center of the stalks, and I'll look for them tomorrow.

Today's been a mess, schedule-wise. Every time I have to go into town, for any reason, it completely fucks up my own work. Add to that it involved a lot of unavoidable expense, and it turns out one of my badly needed scrips is back-ordered indefinitely due to a "global shortage" [read: federal fuckery], and I'm feeling really screwed right now. And yes, I'll be up half the night again getting my work done.

As usual anymore.

I clearly need to fix that, because it's destroying what little health I still have, but I can't do that until I fix the problem of no sales. I need to bring in a hell of lot more than we are now. How I do any of that before January is beyond me, given what this season is like in terms of work, and also given how far behind we are thanks to this disastrous year. There is so much new work, and there will soon be a lot more that's newer still. Trouble is, after this god-awful year, we need to make a sale a day now, on average, and we're nowhere near that.

The Welcoming Fire of a Radiant Heart

Photo copyright Aji, 2025; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's a vintage-style masterwork, a necklace built around an extraordinary Rosarita specimen and matching beads, held in the embrace of old-style freehand silverwork. It's also one to remind us of our obligations in these increasingly dark days and cold nights, and of the power and medicine to be found in the welcoming fire of a radiant heart.

The wild birds know.

Photo copyright Aji, 2025; all rights reserved.

The first murmuration in a wave of them, all piñon jays. It's not migration per se; just movement. Yesterday and the day before, it was the ravens and crows.

The weather isn't really doing much, but the wild birds know that it should be changing — even if it's not.

I, on the other hand, am still doing far too much. Wasn't I just saying that everything but sales had to be dropped? Yeah, I thought so.  So much for that. Now, it's raising money for folks losing their SNAP funds on Saturday, cash to be converted to grocery cards. The list keeps growing; the level of need is terrible. We're using our PayPal account as a pass-through, and over the weekend, I'll convert all monies raised into grocery gift cards to hand out [which work for folks on two levels now]. Wanna help?  Donate here.

But still. It's almost 11 PM, and here I am just getting my own work under way.

Again.

I clearly need to fix that, because I need to bring in a hell of lot more sales than we are now. How I do that before January is beyond me, given what this season is like in terms of work, and also given how far behind we are thanks to this disastrous year. There is so much new work, and there will soon be a lot more that's newer still. Trouble is, after this god-awful year, we need to make a sale a day now, on average, and we're nowhere near that.

Red Willow Spirit: All the Sources of Fire

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's an edition of Red Willow Spirit for these short days and cold dark nights when the light comes as much from the fires we create as it does from the sun. It's four images linked by three works of wearable art, a matched trio, all reminders to us to cultivate and nurture all the sources of fire now.

Rose quartz sky.

Photo copyright Aji, 2025; all rights reserved.

It's a rose quartz sky.

That's actually not uncommon now, pale pink, dusky rose, lavender, lilac. In the east. It's a product of the sunset reflecting off a perfectly clear eastern sky at this altitude in mid- to late fall and early winter, and it's both unusual and beautiful.

One of the natural world's small compensations for a day spent out of it.

Errands today, including medical stuff. At my last two appointments, my blood pressure had dropped to my normal low levels [normal for me has always been around 100/60, 100/70, and I was back to 100/60]. Today it was high normal for anyone else, which is very high for me, which is clearly a measure of the amount of stress I've been under, and will be for the foreseeable. It's also a product of too little sleep, and last week was as bad for that as it was for everything else, partly illness progression, but also, yes, partly the absurd stress levels I'm having to operate under right now.

So I clearly need to fix that. How I do that before January is beyond me, given what this season is like in terms of work, and also given how far behind we are on sales thanks to this disastrous year. There is so much new work, and there will soon be a lot more that's newer still. Trouble is, after this god-awful year, we need to make a sale a day now, on average, and we're nowhere near that.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's a Monday Photo Meditation for the waning days of October, for the shorter light and long cold nights of the haunted season. It's a reflection, too, on the necessity of fire to our survival, especially now — a reminder that there is beauty in the hottest flame, and power, too.

Yet one more thing.

Photo copyright Aji, 2025; all rights reserved.

That up there is a jeweler's saw. So when I talk about it in the context of his cutwork, that's the contraption he's using. If you've never seen one, it's very counterintuitive-looking. It also makes his freehand work all the more impressive.

He's working on yet one more thing that's been in the pipeline literally for months. To his left, wrapped in the rouge cloth, is the third of a trip of commissioned works that is almost complete, at long last; they just need cords and tips and final buffing and so forth. That little rectangle of silver just to his left and above his hand is part of another multi-piece commission. It doesn't look like much there, but it's actually the superstructure of that particular piece; you just can't see the detailing from here.

There is so much new work, and there will soon be a lot more that's newer still. Trouble is, after this god-awful year, we need to make a sale a day now, on average, and we're nowhere near that.

The last two years have all but killed us financially, and I need to get us caught up to make it through the end of the year. From the Fire of Fall

Photo copyright Aji, 2025; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's a work for this season of deepening cold and encroaching dark, for the flames that warm and illumine, and those that foster strong hearts and brave spirits. It's a pair or earrings built around autumn's own gem, reminding us of the power of emergence, of the truth that from the fire of fall we can build a new world even in winter.

Already melting, natch.

Photo copyright Aji, 2025; all rights reserved.

Wings's newest. No, it's not up on the site yet; I took the shot without the bail even being clamped. I don't have a price yet, either, but given all that turquoise, it'll be a lot. It's spectacular. There's also a known flaw, which means that even at "a lot," it'll be something less than it would otherwise have been. It's not visible to the naked eye, and the totality of the whole work is nothing short of amazing.

True hard freeze overnight; frost visible on the grass [and crunchy, too!] for a good while after sunrise. It's been chillier all day, even with constant sun, so maybe we're finally getting into somewhat more seasonal temps. The snow on the peaks is already melting, natch [and the local rag is still wrong; it's the third snow of the season, not the first, you numpties].

We did make a sale early yesterday morning, so that's one bit of the metaphorical kind of rain, if not snow, that we needed so badly. Trouble is, after this god-awful year, we need to make a sale a day now, on average, and we're nowhere near that.

The last two years have all but killed us financially, and I need to get us caught up to make it through the next several months. There's a lot of gorgeous new work up [and there will be a new silverwork necklace and two new pairs of earrings this week], but I've got to sell it for it to make any difference. I posted four new ones the other night, around midnight: those two pairs of earrings, both Goth-y and perfect for Spooky Season, here [this pair now sold!] and here; and two new necklaces, very different but also seasonally apt, here and here. And there's a lot more to come, once these two sets of commissions are done and with their people. in fact, I've got another pair of turquoise earrings tonight, and a turquoise necklace tomorrow [both specacular, and both at the higher end of their respective categories]. But in the meantime, we [which means I] have got to change this trajectory, and fast. To that end, links are here:

Autumn's Pure Light Magic

Photo copyright Aji, 2025; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's a work for this fall spooky season, for the ghost moons in the night sky and the spirits that walk beneath their light. It's the newest pair of earrings in Wings's recent revival of his traditional loop design, this pair created especially for the season, and for autumn's pure light magic.

The last of the glorious fall color.

Photo copyright Aji, 2025; all rights reserved.

It's been a week. And also a day. Not in a good way. I've been doing everything but the work I need to be doing, which is bringing in sales.

And I am beat.

One of the compensations has been the last of the glorious fall color; the stormclouds and sun make a perfect backdrop for it. The bigger problem is that today's thunderstorms never materialized, and we needed the rain [or better yet, snow]. There's a new dusting on the peaks, the third of the season despite what the local rag will tell you incorrectly, but nothing down here.

We did make a sale overnight, so that's one bit of the metaphorical kind of rain that we needed so badly. Trouble is, after this god-awful year, we need to make a sale a day, on average, and we're nowhere near that.

The last two years have all but killed us financially, and I need to get us caught up to make it through the next several months. There's a lot of gorgeous new work up [and there will be a new silverwork necklace and two new pairs of earrings this week], but I've got to sell it for it to make any difference. Friday Feature: A Little Starlit Autumn Magic

Photo copyright Aji, 2025; all rights reserved.

It's our Friday Feature at The NDN Silver Blog, with a pair of works that were created wholly independently of each other, yet clearly belong together, both in old traditional designs set with rare and local gems. It's a naja-style pendant paired with a slender cuff bracelet, both built around perfect staurolites, both also a perfect embodiment of a little starlit autumn magic that is one of the gifts of this season.

Sound and fury.

Photo copyright Aji, 2025; all rights reserved.

That was late this afternoon. The storm was more sound and fury than actual rain, black skies and lots of trickster winds, but not a lot of water.

It looked cool, though.

Actually, we got a lovely soaking rain this morning. I woke up at 6:15, it was bone-dry, and I decided to go back to bed because I got to bed really late and got very little sleep. And 15 minutes later, the herd of buffalo, by which I mean two medium-sized dogs, came thundering up the stairs and I had to get up anyway. Just my luck, probably the one and only time all year that I've fallen back asleep immediately. But in that quarter-hour, it had begun to pour.

They wanted to go out in it anyway.

It's been a ridiculously busy day, directly work-related, and yet I'm only just now getting to sit down to the daily posts. That's what this time of year is like: three months of this nonsense. And we need both kinds of rain, but the metaphorical kind is just as urgent, and with everything in the outside world as terrible as it is right now, sales are very, very slow. But this is the time of year, now to the end of. December, that gets us through much of the following year, or at least it should. And we're not having much luck with that.

The last two years have all but killed us financially, and I need to get us caught up to make it through the next several months. There's a lot of gorgeous new work up [and there will be a new silverwork necklace and two new pairs of earrings this week], but I've got to sell it for it to make any difference. #TBT: The Mysteries of Fall, of Life and Breath and Love

Photo copyright Wings, 2025; all rights reserved.

It's #ThrowbackThursday at The NDN Silver Blog, with a #TBT featured work that dates back sixteen years, to 2009, if memory serves, and a unique entry in one of Wings's very small, informal limited series. It's a pair of earrings wrought in the bold style of elongated hearts, but this was the only pair featuring freehand ajouré heartlines and hematite cabochons, seeming to embody the mysteries of fall, of life and breath and love for our whole small world.

Both kinds of rain.

Photo copyright Aji, 2025; all rights reserved.

Finally a few clouds. Better yet, they're the kind that herald a chance in the weather. And they're a lot more comprehensive now, in the afternoon; not much blue sky visible anymore. The radar map shows a big system headed our way From southwestern Arizona now, so hopefully tomorrow forecast storms will actually materialize.

The land certainly needs it.

We need both kinds of rain, actually. The metaphorical kind is just as urgent, and with everything in the outside world as terrible as it is right now, sales are very, very slow. But this is the time of year, now to the end of. December, that gets us through much of the following year, or at least it should. And we're not having much luck with that.

Medicine to Light Autumn's Deepening Dark

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's a work for the long nights of fall and the darkness that envelops our world in seemingly every way imaginable now, and for learning to love a life of no regrets in spite of it. It's a necklace built around a truly unique material, not a mineral but an element, one extracted for human profit and then rejected, now reformed into a symbol of a deep and abiding love, the kind that serves as medicine to light autumn's deepening dark.

The post is here. Wings's main page is here. Inquiries via the site's Contact form. Last year and this have been nightmares of catastrophic repairs and other astronomical costs, and the damage has been incalculable. We now need to bring in multiple sales each and every week to break even and make sure that basics are covered.

Bone dry.

Photo copyright AJIi, 2025; all rights reserved.

No filters, no edits. Those are the actual colors here today: the only red, white, and blue we recognize.

Not a cloud in the sky all day. Of course, that means no rain, either, never mind snow. Late October, and there should be snow on the peaks, but they're bone dry. Kind of like those branches. I'm afraid it's going to be a terrible winter again.

It's also been a monster of a week, and it's only Tuesday. I can't believe it's not the weekend; we've both put in enough work for us to be into next week already.

And whatever else, I have got to bring in more sales.

But in the meantime, we [which means I] have got to change this trajectory, and fast. To that end, links are here:

And we do still need to make those regular weekly sales, so please share all of the links. We really do need this to be a better month than what we've had so far this year.

Red Willow Spirit: Fall's Finest Medicine

Photo copyright Wings, 2025; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's an edition of Red Willow Spirit for the latter half of October and the gifts that this period historically brings. It's a slightly melancholy reminder of all that we have lost, but also of what we could have again — of fall's finest medicine, which our world here needs so badly now.

A visitor.

Photo copyright Aji, 2025; all rights reserved.

Late today. Yes, it's that other October day, another year older, and this time, it seems to be related to the first of those days this month. It's a visitor, a painted lady, long after the butterflies, what few we had this year, have disappeared. It flew past my face as I was lining up a shot of the maple and landed overhead in the leaves, where it stayed. I'm choosing to think it's my late sister coming to wish me a good day, since she was Butterfly Woman [and since the anniversary of her murder was eight short days ago, so it seems likely that she might want to return for a visit now].

It's a gift.

Not that the day itself has been any different, but then, it never is; I've been on the run since I got up this morning, and that will probably be the case until midnight or later. Because it's that time of year.

And whatever else, I have got to bring in more sales.

Monday Photo Meditation: A Haunting Mid-Autumn Mystery

Photo copyright Wings, 2025; all rights reserved.

Now posted at The NDN Silver Blog, it's a Monday Photo Meditation for this point in October, and in fall as a whole, one for its rarer phenomena and the beauty it bestows upon the land. It's one in a series of four images [the other three of which will appear tomorrow] that date back some twenty years, capturing a haunting mid-autumn mystery in the fog that visits us occasionally at this season.
