First lines:
It is the last full month of the season denominated Winter. It is also short and straight to the point.
Last year, it held out the promise of spring on a catkin-studded twig, as if to say, Yes, the cold is taking its leave; leaves of the other sort will be here soon.
It’s all hogwash, as anyone who has ever been betrayed by February’s fickle spirit knows.
