We call him a messenger, and he is: of the rocks and rivers, of the Little People and the larger spirits. His voice is strong and clear, his message easily heard, if not always clearly understood. But he delivers his message by way of the bell-like note that emanates from the curve of his beak . . . and by way of the arrow-like feathers that hold him upright against tree and post and even a battered tin lamp
