Right now, it's very sunny looking down the stairs.
That's going to change this week.
Tomorrow, they begin the framework for the roof. They expect that to take them most of this week; by next Monday, they plan to be ready to install the torchdown rubberized roofing itself, and begin working to integrate it and the the plaster around the top. So, yes, things are moving fast.
The next step will be the exterior plastering, and then the windows and doors, in an all-out effort to get it closed in before the first real snowstorm. We've been blessed by the weather spirits since the first of October; the last two weeks have hit higher temperatures than pretty much all of September. Right now, we have a high wind warning (warning, not watch) in effect through tomorrow, but the mercury is supposed to be hit seventy or so.
Still, it won't last. And when winter hits, it's likely to do so with a vengeance. So even if we can't move in before the cold and snow, we have to get the house closed in. The guys can continue to work on the exterior through the end of the year, if need be, but everything needs to be weatherproof well before then.
So we'll still need daily shares of the link to our YouCaring page via the widgets provided. Especially effective is posting of the widget code from the box at lower right, which produces this:
We also need consistent shares of Wings's site, which pays bills and expenses (ordinary and otherwise), and also helps fund the construction; the crowdfunding effort by no means funds anything close to all of the cost. And for those folks considering holiday commissions, now is the time to contact me to get your orders into Wings's queue; he's already hard at work on a number of orders, and the creative process takes time.
The last match left us about only about $1,400 away from covering all of the materials costs for the roof, but we still need to raise the rest. There is a $750 match on offer, which would give us an extra hundred to put toward the plaster work which will have to begin along with the final stages of the roof itself. We've raised $265 toward that match, which means that we have only $485 left to go before it doubles to $1,500.
Many thanks to everyone for helping us get this far. There's a long way to go, and our available time in which to do it is now telescoping inward fast. We've been hard at catch-up chores all weekend, and we and the crew will all be hard at work this week, trying to make extra progress. Not easy when the calendar reminds you that before the workweek is out, you'll be another year older, emphasis on old. I'm trying, believe me.

ReplyDeleteJust need the match money dropped in and you're good to go on the roof. But that last post applies in more ways than one. We're all dancing on the razor's edge trying to get the exterior done before Winter!
ReplyDeleteOh, and Happy Birthweek. I think you've earned more than a day by now.
