Bancos and mouldings and shares. Yeah, no. I hate Frank Baum.

The guys put the second coat on the bancos today. There's one more coat to go, the slick with the pigment in it, but we're waiting on the mica to get here. If it arrives as expected, they'll be back on the weekend to try to finish up all of it.

Now, what's different upstairs?

Bingo. They don't really qualify as crown mouldings, because they don't have that fancy Victorian flare (or even flair). Which is fine, because that's not what I wanted; I wanted it to be very simple spare, just enough to set off the ceilings from the walls. We bought the exact same moulding for these as for the baseboards (which can't go in until we can get the flooring, obviously) — far, far less expensive, unfinished so they could be stained to match the rest of the woodwork, and plain enough to go with the architectural style.

But we do need to get the flooring ordered soon. We're also going to have to order the tile for the whole downstairs, since it needs to go in before cabinetry and appliances (it will all be the same, save for the tiny space of the downstairs bath). The one I want for downstairs comes from Home Depot, and is a fraction of the cost of what they have at Lowe's. I mean, a third the price of their lower-grade stuff in a comparable style; a tenth or less of their decent-quality stuff. And then there's the electricity and the plumbing (not including the evaporative system for the septic) and the exterior plaster. Yes, I have to have all this stuff rattling around in my head all day every day and most of the night, and every second is spent, even unconsciously, trying to juggle it all and figure out how to make it work. So we need consistent link shares for all the rest of it:
  • First, to donate, the PayPal link is here
  • Second, for sales (which we really need to make, and I'll be highlighting some of his high-end stuff on the site this week), the link to Wings's site (preferably with a testimonial, if you have some of his work), because sales are gonna keep this thing rolling.
  • And finally, the link to our wishlist (which badly needs updating), with an emphasis on the Lowe's gift cards, because those are what will help us pay for all the stuff that will make this place liveable, like a water heater and flooring and so forth. A note here: I really do dislike Home Depot, but they have a terrific tile that would work for pretty much the entire downstairs (except the bathroom) that's less than a third of the price of a lot of what's comparable from Lowe's. It's the kind of thing that we can't rationalize spending so much more on, given the differential, and so I'll be adding Home Depot gift cards to the wishlist, too, much as it pains me. [Okay, so I just checked; you can only buy Home Depot gift cards through their own company site, so they're not going to be on the Amazon wishlist. Think of it as a virtual virtual wishlist.]
As always lately, I have a lot more work this evening, and I have to get on it. Many thanks and much love to everyone.
