Wood like glass! Small but major plasterwork. And shares needed.

More woodwork today. Kind of a cool effect, huh? Although you wouldn't want to venture out that door just yet, because there's no deck, and it's kind of a long drop.

The wood looks like glass now:

Yeah, I know; flash glare. Still, you can see the shine. You can also see it here:

That's done with steel wool and repeated coats of stain, even before they seal it.

Sherm and his guys got some seemingly small but awkward and important areas done, especially this one:

It's that very thin strip of plaster running up along the left-hand side of the drywall. That's the area where the texturing has to be completed before I can paint, so it was kind of pressing on my mental to-do list. They did the west side of the stairs/wood box, the inside of the pantry cupboard, and the inside of the coat closet. We've had to order more mica, so they'll be finishing up some relatively small stuff tomorrow morning and then coming back next week when the mica will be in and ready for mixing to do the rest.

In the meantime, we've been blessed with contributions courtesy of last night's diary, coupled with a sale; together, they've made a huge difference. It's given us a jump on labor costs for next week, so while things will be tight, it won't be quite so agonizing over the next few days. But it all starts up again next week, too (and the crew has one more day remaining for this week), so we're going to have to keep up the funding chase (believe me, no one in the world is more tired of it than I am). So we need consistent link shares for all the rest of it:
  • First, to donate, the PayPal link is here
  • Second, for sales (which we really need to make, and I'll be highlighting some of his high-end stuff on the site this week), the link to Wings's site (preferably with a testimonial, if you have some of his work), because sales are gonna keep this thing rolling.
  • And finally, the link to our wishlist (which badly needs updating), with an emphasis on the Lowe's gift cards, because those are what will help us pay for all the stuff that will make this place liveable, like a water heater and flooring and so forth. A note here: I really do dislike Home Depot, but they have a terrific tile that would work for pretty much the entire downstairs (except the bathroom) that's less than a third of the price of a lot of what's comparable from Lowe's. It's the kind of thing that we can't rationalize spending so much more on, given the differential, and so I'll be adding Home Depot gift cards to the wishlist, too, much as it pains me. [Okay, so I just checked; you can only buy Home Depot gift cards through their own company site, so they're not going to be on the Amazon wishlist. Think of it as a virtual virtual wishlist.]
As always lately, I have more work this evening, and I have to get on it. We are profoundly grateful to Yasu for her efforts on our behalf last night, and to everyone who helped in so many, many ways both last night and today. Many thanks and much love to everyone.
