It's two images from nearly a decade ago, linked by a single newly contemporary work of wearable art, all of them chosen to remind us that there are better ways of reckoning prosperity now.

Our expenses this year have been enormous in both senses of the word, and we're entering the holiday creative season in ten days, which will require its annual huge investment of resources and time.
